Without the support and commitment of our judges, we would not be able to run the awards every year. We would like to express our sincere thanks to each of them, they are the unsung heroes for our awards programme.

Andrew Carpenter

Constructing Excellence South West
Andrew joined the UK construction industry in 1977 with the manufacturing giant CRH, which in the UK now includes Forticrete Ltd and Ibstock Brick, and held a series of sales and business development roles in his early years. It was the ground breaking Rethinking Construction Report of 1998 that was to change Andrew’s career path as he became involved in change management and best practice, first within CRH and then later as a Board Member and Director of Constructing Excellence. During this time he was the inaugural chairman of the national ‘Best Practice’ Club network and the public face of Constructing Excellence being responsible for marketing, events, communications and membership. AJ Eaton

Statutory Director
AJ has worked in the social housing sector since leaving university in the 1990's. Having worked on both the client and now contractor side, he has a unique insight in to the sector. AJ is a statutory director at the award winning Mi-Space and over the past eight years has led a team to quadruple the turn over of the business and established a reputation for delivering clients visions and values. Mi-Space have recently delivered the largest Passivhaus development in the UK and are undertaking decarbonisation of existing properties for clients in the South West and Wales. Alan Rigby

Deputy Programme Director
Civils, EDF Energy, Hinkley Point C
EDF is the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity, meeting around 20% UK demand of the country’s demand, supplying millions of customers and businesses. It generates electricity with eight nuclear power stations, 30 wind farms, one gas and one coal power station, and with heat and power plants. EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance at Hinkley Point C, the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years. It will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy. Birgit Hontzsch

CE Cornwall
Having acted as Chair of the Constructing Excellence Cornwall Hub since October 2018, I have been closely involved with CE activities in Cornwall and the South West, including having previously contributed to the judging process and being well aware of ongoing projects and best practice in the region. My landscape architecture background allows me to take a holistic view of projects, with an emphasis on sustainability including climate change resilience, healthy living, biodiversity and landscape context of developments. I have worked in the construction and development sectors for over 20 years in Germany and various locations in the UK, and I am a Chartered Member of the LI (Landscape Institute) as well as a member of the BDLA (Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten). Bill Button

NVB Architects
Bill is a registered architect (ARB/RIBA) with a wide experience and has been a director at NVB Architects for 14 years. He specialises in providing architectural solutions for the education sector which are both dynamic and realistic. Bill is passionate about collusive working and believes that all projects are better for being developed in a team environment where the whole is better than the sum of all of the individual parts. We work in a complex and challenging industry and the more we work together helping to understand each other the more successful we will become.

Carol Heneghan

Business Development Manager - South West
Carol has worked in the construction for over 25 years from designing drainage systems and managing building product portfolios in the 90’s; moving to the regeneration sector working with both the public and private sector to attract developers and investors to one of the regions major towns; and now for the last 10 years working with contractors working in marketing, business development and business transformation. Having worked with a major public sector client to achieve ISO 44001 the Collaborative working accreditation Carol believe that collaboration, good leadership, innovation and strong environmental and social credentials will ensure greater success in the industry.
